archKIDecture is an independent architecture education project that encourages children to explore and participate in the built environment.
Wait a second. We thought ORIGAMI was the art of FOLDED paper. Well, some people argue about the name of this artform as it is the art of FOLDED and CUT paper. But let's not make a fuss, as the results are so incredible. There are 3 people who are famous for making 3D buildings out of paper:
Masahiro Chatani, Keiko Nakazawa, and Takaaki Kihara. They have made the most beautiful and detailed structures out of flat pieces of paper. Masahiro Chatani is the artist who is credited with creating the artform in the early 1980's.
Takaaki Kihara created this one, perhaps the biggest in the world!
Origamic Architecture is usually building shapes but
sometimes it is not even buildings...in our case, let's concentrate on the
incredible buildings that have been created.
You can bulid your own too, and there are some great patterns for structures
at this site from France: http://www.baudandbui.fr.st
go to that site and scroll down the left hand column until you see Origamic
Archi and it will take you to the patterns.
It does usually take cutting with an exacto knife, so make sure you know what you are doing, or get help.
There are also some great cardboard model patterns of farm houses and other French structures at that site. Go to the link that says Card Models in the left column too. Build an entire French community! Impress your friends and teachers by calling your card model a " MAQUETTES EN CARTON" just like they do in France!
